The preliminaries of Debate, one of the series activities of the 3rd Youth Arts Festival on Xingfuliu Campus of AHS were held in two reporting halls on the evening of 1st December. Vice-president Liu Congjun, Assistant Dean of Students’ Affair Office Xu Shishui and Li Hongbo, Assistant Dean of Teaching Affair Office Zhang Weipu, Vice-Secretary of CYL Zhuang Zengchen were invited to participate in the activity. The activity was hosted by the Students’ union and was organized by Grade two.

The topic of the debate is “the main cause of generation gap lies in parents (children)”, and the debate was organized in the unit of class, with two classes competing with each other after drawing lots. The winners will promote into the next round. The chairman of the Students’ union announced the beginning of the debate, and then the eight units took turns to debate. The debaters had a verbal battle with each other: the appealing opinion statement of opening speaker, the fierce questioning and enquiring of Square 2 and 3, the powerful conclusion of Square 4. The sonorous and humorous statement of debaters brought the debate to a climax where the tolerance, diversity, communication and convergence of opinions and ideas coexisted with the sharpening of spirits. The preliminaries drew a close with the ring of bell. The winners are as follows: class 17, 20, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 30. It’s expected that they will give more brilliant performances in the next round.

Judges of the debate include Zhang Junwei, an experienced debate-guiding teacher, and excellent student representatives from former debate. Their excellent reviews and judge won the praise of teachers and students at the scene. Many students commented that the activity not only promoted their appreciation level of debating art, but also enhanced their class cohesion.

The debate is one of the series activities of the 3rd Youth Arts Festival and also a regular student activity of the school. The activity not only enriches the students' extra-curricular cultural life, sets up a promotion platform of self-showing and self-promoting, but also activates campus cultural atmosphere, reveals energetic and positive spirit of AHS students, and promotes the students' all-round development.
