In every music class of which Miss Deng Jing, a music teacher of High School Attached to Shandong Normal University (AHS) is in charge, we can appreciate the happy songs, and the performance of instruments from the students, such as the guitar, flute, piano, bamboo flute, cello, as well as various styles of dance performances by individual or groups. This kind of music class offers everyone an opportunity to show themselves on the platform, raising their confidence, promoting friendship, and narrowing the gap between teachers and students. Learning from teachers and students can improve the students’ music accomplishment naturally and effectively. This is a new music classroom teaching model which Miss Deng actively explores. The new teaching model has won recognition and praise from provincial experts, and was shown as a demonstration lesson, which also receives praise during the training of leading teachers of music subject inShandongProvince.

The music class in high school under the new curriculum reform advocates “self-consciousness, cooperation, inquiry-based” learning. The music class under the traditional teaching model adhered to the bondage of the teaching material contents, leading to single teaching form, rigid class teaching and having serious influence on the students’ interest to music. As senior high students, the music class is the main field where students form their art accomplishment. However, many students reflect “under the traditional teaching mode, we like music, but we don’t like the music class…”

Following the requirements and standards of the new curriculum reform, Miss Deng actively communicates with provincial, city experts and bravely explores the teaching mode and approach with the characteristic of our school. Trying hard makes the change from “music class” to “music activity class” come true. She encourages the students to play on the platform and the teaching activities, such as “sing your own song”, “affection of dancing”, “performing skills”, which makes every student show personal graciousness on the platform in her music class.

During the process of exploring this new music class, Miss Deng actively communicates with teachers fromShandongNormalUniversityteaching Methodology and discusses with the undergraduates of Music Department. Besides, they operate seminars and demonstration lessons for more than ten times. She concludes the experience constantly, which achieves “teaching and learning” harmony and realizes the joy of both teaching and learning.

As a senior high school attached to universities, teachers of AHS apply their education and research theory to practice, exploring effective ways of teaching in their own field, making their teaching reflect and lead the development of their field, which endows their outstanding achievements.
