The 29th China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest (CASTIC), hosted by China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and Education Ministry, was held in Beijing from 21^stto 26^thAugust. Jiang Yilin a student of High School Attached to Shandong Normal University (AHS) and also a member of middle school student talent plan of CAST and Taishan school of Shandong University, was awarded the second place and won the silver medal for his innovation research achievement on traditional ancient villages of Jinan. Xue Maochang, the main coach of AHS innovations, was present at this contest as well.

Jiang Yilin’s applied project belonged to social and behavioral science. In the project he took the traditional ancient villages of Jinan as the study object, adopted the method of field investigation and theoretical analysis and collected information via consulting documents and oral history. Thus, he made detailed analysis and did thorough research on historical development, special arrangement, cultural value and building current situation of the ancient villages of Jinan. Meanwhile, he put forward reasonable suggestions on preservation and development of these ancient villages in the process of urbanization. Jinan is a famous city for national historical culture, and is rich in traditional village resources, which has not received much attention for a long time. With the current process of urbanization, traditional village culture is in the danger of dying out. Therefore, this research project is of great practical significance.

According to the current policy of college entrance examination (CEE), Jiang Yilin has gained the opportunity of the mark adding in CEE and autonomous admission to national key universities with lower admission line. In recent years, AHS attached great importance to cultivate students’ innovation qualities. Scores of students have gained the qualification of mark adding in CEE and even of being guaranteed to be admitted to famous universities for their great achievements in innovation contests, computer production and robot contests. AHS is one of the schools which has won most medals in CASTIC.
