In view of providing students a chance to further learn mathematical culture, nurture their interest in mathematics and upgrade their mathematical literacy, “Mathematical Culture into Campus” series of lectures, a public service activity of mathematics intended for high school students sponsored by Jinan Institute for Education and Teaching Research, walked into High School Attached to Shandong Normal University (AHS) on October 10. Present in the lecture were Wang Yunjian, Director ofJinan Mathematical Culture and Learning Research Center, Liu Minghui, Director of AHS Education and Teaching Affairs Department, Li Chengjin, Director of Grade 2017, some math teachers and students in Grade 2017. Liu Conghjun, AHS Vice Principal, hosted the activity.

The lecture was addressed by Zhu Qiang, Researcher of Jinan Mathematical Culture and Learning Research Center, who made deep illuminations in four perspectives, that is, learning the history of mathematics, playing with the mathematical fun, appreciating the beauty of mathematics and experiencing the application of mathematics. Zhu, combing pictures and pertinent illustrations, expounded what is mathematics and inspired students via some simple but funny games and those stories of mathematicians to further understand mathematics and explore the beauty of mathematics.

A sense of humor pervaded Zhu’s lecture, evoking bursts of laughter from the audience who learned the history of mathematics and at the same time formed greater interest in mathematical study.
