On August 12, 2017 Qilu Music Instrument Competition was held in Shandong Provincial Opera & Dance Drama Theater. Zhong Ziyu and Miao Xinyue, two students in Grade 2016 from the Symphony Orchestra of High School Attached to Shandong Normal University (AHS) won the 1^stprize and Yang Jingping, a student in Grade 2017, was granted the 2^ndprize.

Hosted by Shandong Province Musician Association in combination with Art Troupe of Qilu Evening News, over 10 sessions of Qilu Music Instrument Competition have been held so far and gain wide popularity among musicians and music experts. The competition committee invited those renowned instrument performers, educators and composers in Shandong Province to act as judges. The competition adopted the on-the-spot scoring system to assure its expertness, authoritativeness and fairness. Starting from this May, the competition has attracted over 100 players including professional performers from art group throughout China, students of art colleges, social instrument lovers and students in primary and high schools.

AHS Symphony Orchestra, also titled Shandong High School Symphony Orchestra, is an orchestra enjoying national popularity and has won prizes in competitions nation-wide and abroad.
