On May 16, Zhang Jintao, a student of the International Course Department of High School Attached to Shandong Normal University (AHS) gained the 1^stPrize inCertificate Authority Cup International Mathematical Contest in Modeling for China and got the advanced certificate for global mathematical modeling abilities. Zhang turned out to be the only senior high school students who won the 1^stPrize or above.

The 5^thCertificate Authority Cup International Mathematical Contest in Modeling for China was hosted by a combination of the Mathmatics Society ofInner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China and World Mathematical Modeling Certificate Center in accordance withMathematical Contest In Modeling (MCM). As a warm-up practice for attending MCM, theInternational Mathematical Contest in Modeling for China has a reputation of “Mini MCM”. The topic was presented in English and each contestant team was supposed to submit a thesis on science and technology within the required time. The awards were set in the same arrangement as MCM. No more than 3% of the contestant teams were conferred the award of Outstanding Winner and meanwhile the Advanced Certification for global mathematical modeling abilities; no more than 10% were conferred the award of Meritorious and meanwhile the Advanced Certification; no more than 30% were conferred the award of Honorable Metion and meanwhile the Elementary Certification. The team that gained points above 30 shall obtain the award of Successful Participant.

The contest attracted about 10,000 participants including high school students, college students as well as mathematical modeling lovers, among whom 2085 teams or individuals were conferred awards. It was the first time that AHS International Course Department had attended the modeling contest of such a kind. Led by Zhang Jintao, AHS team got 80 points and was conferred the award of Meritorious.

AHS has opened the course of mathematical modeling. The outstanding achievement has greatly promoted the development of AHS mathematical modeling team and helped accumulate precious experience for later participation.
