With the 23^rdWorld Reading Day approaching, Chinese Communist Youth League Committee of High School Attached to Shandong Normal University (AHS) issued a proposal of “Reading more, reading better and reading with pleasure” and launched a series of activities named “Grow with reading”. The activities, which were scheduled to last two weeks from April 23 to May 6, were intended to build up the socialist core values in students’ mind and nurture their better qualities.

Before World Reading Day students leaders of Students’ union were directed to gather in the school library respectively in the downtown schoolyard and the Xingfuliu schoolyard and shared their reading experiences. In the morning, April 23, the school broadcast center announced the proposal on launching reading activities, which received students’ positive response. They expressed their strong will to stick to the habit of reading in their future life and study and enrich their life through reading.

On April 27 a book-donating activity was organized simultaneously in the two schoolyards and students donated over 5,000 books to children in Tibet. With students’ deep blessings and greetings written on the pages as well as their hope that Tibetan children could undertake better academic work in schools, those books would be sent to Tibetan children.

So far several non-profit communities like Dandelion Community have been founded and shall undertake more non-profit activities together with those non-profit organizations of sister schools.

Reading has a great influence on a person’s growth. A good book may change a person’s life and a nation’s spiritual outlook will largely depend on its reading proficiency. As was announced by UNESCO in 1995, April 23 was designated as World Reading Day and should be celebrated annually with the hope that global citizens, old or young, rich or poor, ill or fit, shall enjoy the joy brought by reading, respect and appreciate those masters who have made great contributions to human civilization in literature, culture and science, and protect all intellectual properties. It is the theme of World Reading Day and also the principles that should be followed ever and forever.

Colorful activities shall be undertaken in branches of Chinese Communist Youth League of High School Attached to Shandong Normal University.
