In the morning, December 2, the 1st Shandong Provincial Youth Creative Programming and AI Design Contest, hosted by Shandong Association for Science and Technology and organized by Shandong Science and Technology Museum (Shandong Youth and Children’s Science and Technology Center), was held in the gymnasium of High School Attached to Shandong Normal University (AHS). Present at the opening ceremony were Chen Aiguo, Assistant Inspector from Shandong Association for Science and Technology, Xia Qinggang, Director of Science Popularization Department of Shandong Association for Science and Technology, Wang Yuzhang, AHS Principal, Liu Peiyu, Standing Director of Shandong Association of Children’s Science Instructors and Director of Shandong Association of Youth Olympiad in Informatics and Huang Zhenguo, Standing Director of Shandong Association of Children’s Science Instructors and Commander of Network Police Detachment of Jinan Municipal Public Security Bureau. The opening ceremony was hosted by Zhou Ning, Associate Librarian of Shandong Science and Technology Museum (Shandong Youth and Children’s Science and Technology Center).

Since its beginning, the contest has received wide concern and active participation of the society, with the number of online registers adding up to 11,315 all together presenting 1,679 creative programming works and with over 900 teams from 17 cities in Shandong Province attending the contest. Events like Intelligent Patrol, AI Sprinkler, Smart Sumo and AI Treasure Hunter were staged on the first day.

As Chen Aiguo stated, all levels of science and technology associations as well as workers engaged in youth science popularization should attach greater importance to instructing and supporting the science popularization among youths and provide more quality activities and service concerning youth science popularization. He hoped more youths forged wings of science and technology for their dreams and got involved in science and technology careers to give full display to their potentials in scientific innovation.
