On October 31 the Teaching Base for Innovative Composition, the first one of its kind nationwide, was established in High School Attached to Shandong Normal University (AHS) and the opening ceremony was organized simultaneously in the downtown schoolyard and the Xingfuliu schoolyard.

Ma Yanwen, Head of AHS Chinese Language Teaching Department, addressed a speech in the opening ceremony. As she pointed out, AHS Teaching Base for Innovative Composition was the first of its kind nationwide, which was established for high school composition teaching in cooperation with Organizing Committee of National Primary and Secondary School Innovation Composition Contest. A special class for innovative composition teaching as well as a research center for developing high school innovative composition courses shall be founded respectively in the two schoolyards of High School Attached to Shandong Normal University. In view of voluntary applications and through strict selection, 85 students were eventually designated and granted membership of the first session of “AHS Teaching Base for Innovative Composition”. AHS has made outstanding achievements in various levels of composition contests nationwide. Adhering to its educational philosophy of “nurturing students’ literacy and cultivating their elegant attribute”, AHS Chinese Literature and Language Teaching Research Center have displayed their distinguished ability of teaching research and management and made continuous innovations with due respect to traditions. AHS Teaching Base for Innovative Composition shall put into effect the teaching model of “Differentiated Instruction” to meet the requirements of personalized education. Attention shall be paid to exploring composition teaching models based on conditions of students with a talent for writing and original innovative composition courses with universal validity shall be developed.

Wang Yuzhang addressed a speech, expressing his deep gratitude to the support and concern from Open Class and Shandong Normal University and conferred high acknowledgement on the model role AHS Chinese Language and Literature Teaching and Research Center had been playing in teaching and education reform. As Wang pointed out,AHS Teaching Base for Innovative Composition was established in view of three meanings. Firstly, experts from Open Class and Shandong Normal University shall be invited to give lessons for the base class, thus introducing fresh educational resources into High School Attached to Shandong Normal University and setting up a model example for bringing in off-campus educational resources; secondly, the teaching base would function as an incubator to nurture the growth of AHS teachers as well as a fresh platform for initiating the Chinese language and literature teaching reform with AHS characteristics; thirdly, via the base class teaching a new approach shall be explored in the personalized education, which would provide more targeted education for students with some speciality. Wang also hoped AHS teachers should make the most of this opportunity and make achievements as early as possible.

Gu Guangmei and Hao Xueying, respectively on behalf of Shandong Normal University and Open Class, addressed a speech, expressing their hope that the base class students should devote themselves to innovative writing and endeavour to realize their dreams. Tang Yinghai, General Secretary of AHS CPC Committee, in his ending speech affirmed the significance of establishing the first high school Teaching Base for Innovative Composition and hoped the base teachers and students to make efforts to fulfil the expectations of the society.

As was reported, the high school students who win the 2^ndprize or above in the final of National Innovative Composition Competition for Primary and High Schools shall gain the qualification to be recommended to attend the independent recruitment of those universities cooperating with the innovative composition competition. So far over 60 universities have acknowledged the competition.
