Professor Anya Yurchyshyn From Columbia University
Professor Anya Yurchyshyn from Columbia University gave a lecture in the lecture hall of Xingfuliu Campus of High School Attached to Shandong Normal University (AHS) on the afternoon of June 19th. Her lecture was about how to improve the writing skills of college applications. Professor Anya Yurchyshyn once studied in Oxford University, and holds a Bachelor’s degree from New York University and a master’s degree from Columbia University. Now she teaches writing in Columbia University. This lecture was hosted by Wei Ranyi, a 2010 graduate of AHS, who is now studying in Colgate University, US.
Wei Ranyi first introduced his life and studies in Colgate University and illustrated his major and his research project. Then Professor Anya Yurchyshyn explained what students should pay attention to when they apply for American universities and the differences between the exams in America. She focused on how to write college applications. She pointed out some mistaken ideas that Chinese students may have when writing English applications and compared the differences between Chinese and English culture and writing conception.
This lecture is part of the activity of AHS where a hundred professors are invited to give lectures. It is also a lecture ofAHS Forum, a serial activity where students and teachers can give lectures or speeches. The lecture room broadens students’ horizon, enriches their life and is also beneficial to their international view and intercultural communicating ability.
